For a cricket lover, the game is pure bliss and the period, for which a series run, it is both exciting and intimidating as to which team shall win.
For the ongoing Ashes Series that started on the 8th of July and is scheduled to end on the 24th of August, involving England and Australia battling against each other to lift the trophy, here are some of the amazing and interesting facts that perhaps you didn’t know about the Ashes Series —

  1. Regardless of whichever team wins, the Ashes urn will actually remain in the Lord’s Museum. The winners will only be given a replica of the urn.
  2. In the year 1902, Australia made their lowest score ever, when England had bowled out the entire team of Aussies for just 36 runs.
  3. If in case the series is drawn, it is the team that won the last time who gets to keep the urn’s replica.
  4. James Southerton from England, who debuted in the year 1877, was 49 years old when he first stepped into the field.
  5. Until today, there have been 315 Ashes test matched played, out of which Australia has won 123 matches; England has won 103 matches, while the remaining 89 matches have been drawn.
  6. Australia’s Carl Rackemann had literally taken 76 balls to score his first run, while England’s John Murray had taken 80 balls to open his account of runs.
  7. Out of the 67 Ashes Series that have been played, Australia and England have won 31 matches each, while the remaining five were drawn.

  8. Australia’s Don Bradman had made a total of 5028 runs in his Ashes career, with an amazing average of 89.79 runs.
  9. Shane Warne has the record of being the highest wicket taker in the history of Ashes, with 195 wickets to his credit with an average of 23.26.
  10. The highest score record in the history of Ashes belongs to England’s Len Hutton, who in the year 1938, scored 364 runs to bring England to the light of victory in the match.
